Connecting with Music: 10 Billion Views and Counting...

The 3rd annual social media advocacy month for music therapy is happening all this month!  We've got several posts lined up for later in the month as part of this project, but we wanted to let our readers know early on how they can follow all the action.  Head on over to Twitter and follow the hashtags #lovemusictherapy and #mtadvocacy, and Like the Certification Board for Music Therapists on Facebook.  Finally, we'd LOVE to hear some of the ways that music therapy has had an impact on you or a loved one, so please leave a comment on this post or on our Facebook wall!

The theme for this year's social media advocacy month is "CONNECT," so I was browsing for a song I thought might represent that.  I headed on over to the top viewed videos of all time list on YoutTube and noticed an interesting trend.  Of the top 30 most viewed videos on YouTube, all but 2 are music videos.  For a site that most people associate with videos of people falling off bikes or cute animals, people are drawn to music more than anything else, by a long shot.  We're talking around 10 BILLION views on these videos combined.

I think that in itself is a pretty good representation of the connections we all share with music.

Stay tuned to The George Center Blog this month for more on social media advocacy month!
