Andrea Verburg, LPMT, MT-BC, serves as Assistant Director and Music Therapist for The George Center. She's been with The George Center since 2012. She is a nationally board-certified and licensed music therapist, with additional certification in Neurologic Music Therapy. Andrea received her Bachelor of Music Therapy degree from Georgia College & State University in 2009. She completed her internship with The Baldwin Life Enrichment Center and Creative Studio in Milledgeville, GA, working with adults with developmental disabilities. Andrea also serves as our volunteer and student observation coordinator. Andrea enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities. She specializes in early childhood development, and working with adolescents and young adults with varying diagnoses (Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, Anxiety, etc.). She is one of our Bloom in Music instructors, and teaches our Sprouts and Uke & Me classes!
Andrea is an active member of the American Music Therapy Association, and serves as the 2nd Vice President of the Southeastern Region of the American Music Therapy Association, as well as Treasurer for the Music Therapy Association of Georgia. Andrea has performed as a cellist with various Atlanta area music ensembles, including the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, and is also proficient in piano, voice, and guitar. Andrea lives with her husband in their new house in Cumming, GA. In her spare time, she buys a lot a yarn, watches a lot of Doctor Who, and tries to keep her dog from chewing on yarn while she watches Doctor Who.
