What is your role at GCMT?
I am a music therapist a GCMT, providing music therapy services for our programs such as The Giving Tree, group music therapy for memory care with older adults, individual music therapy for clients we see in the clinic, and music therapy groups with Forsyth County Schools.
What has been your favorite experience at GCMT?
In our Giving Tree program, we offer a music group in which we pair seniors living in an assisted living setting with a local preschool and the two groups engage in music experiences together. Recently, in one of these groups, the preschool children had such a great time, they asked their teachers if they could stay all day to have music with their “Grandfriends.” This sweet expression brought so much meaning and joy to the seniors in the group, and it was a wonderful experience to see the music bring these two groups together in such a positive way.
Where did you go to school?
I received my bachelors degree in music education with an emphasis in voice from Shorter College in Rome, GA and a masters degree in music therapy from Immaculata University in Malvern, PA just outside of Philadelphia.
Where were you before GCMT?
Prior to working at GCMT, I was teaching elementary music in Fulton County Schools, and before that I worked with Metro Music Therapy to offer music therapy services for hospice patients, at-risk youth, refugee students, and survivors of sexual abuse.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love practicing yoga, hiking with my husband and my dog, and having game nights with friends.
What is your favorite food?
How can I choose just one? I love guacamole and any dish with a good Thai curry.
What is the best concert you’ve ever attended?
Florence & the Machine in Philadelphia at an outdoor venue by the river.
What is your favorite thing about GCMT?
I think we have an amazing team of talented, caring, knowledgeable therapists. Working with people like this helps to make all of us better at our jobs and offers a fun, supportive environment. I also like that, because we are a small private practice, we have the flexibility to offer creative services that can adapt to meet our clients’ needs.
